No other organization, independent or government, gathers the data our system collects on violent crime cases. We fill a gap where evidence-driven approaches are severely lacking.
Our data collection process is designed to be accurate, timely and robust. Every piece of data is checked and verified before being validated in the system. Unlike our peers, we don’t simply aggregate existing data from publicly available sources. Our professionally-trained teams gather data by attending every hearing of every case, in person.
As importantly, our database is designed specifically to work around the idiosyncrasies of criminal justice systems. What makes our database different is it is the only database built around daily experience in local courts rather than ideas of what might be actually happening.
Incidents
Data is gathered from available police sources and verified through our court coverage. We follow every case from the moment of the incident through judicial resolution to incarceration.
Cases
We track the status of each case, monitoring the courts daily for changes and/or new additions.
Hearings
Our staff covers every hearing to report on the contents and outcomes, gathering data that is not gathered by anyone else, including the courts. The findings are entered into our uniquely designed data application that are reviewed and verified before going into our proprietary database.
Analysis
Our data is then ready to be used – confident of its validity and accuracy – for publication or prepared for analysis by data scientists.
